Site Council Minutes

September 9, 2010

 

1.        Call to order @ 4:16

2.       Introductions all around

3.       Call to Audience:  discussion about PTSA members that are allowed and needed on the council.

4.       Roll call, absent:  Ms. Denton, Mr. Taylor, Mr. Martin and Ms. Bryant.

5.       Principal’s report:

a.        Discussion of the loss of a Doolen student.

b.      Mr. Beaton talked of the great start to the new school year.

c.       Mr. Beaton talked about being in communication with all Doolen stakeholders to ensure a positive outcome to this year.

d.      Of the 3 R’s, relationships is high on Mr. Beaton’s list.

e.      Positive report of the first 10-11 school year PTSA meeting.

f.        Positive behavioral reward system was instituted at the beginning of the year.

g.       Pressing needs discussed:

·         Data- there is a common thread of students struggling with Math across all grade levels.

·         Title I budget – we are hopeful that the funds will allow for the supports we discussed (pull-out teachers, improvement coach.

·         Data – presented and shared spreadsheet of previous years testing data across all three grades, review of math and reading deficiencies in each grade level.

·         Communication – Mr. Beaton has been in communication with colleagues that have similar experiences with struggling school populations to help with school needs.

h.      Questions:  population of Doolen currently reported at approximately 740.  What is to account for the high influx of 6^th graders?

6.        Study/action items:  elect new members from staff, this will be done through email. 

7.       Items for next agenda on 10/14/10:  4 parents needed from PTSA, vote on new facilitator, welcome new members, possible guest speaker (David N?), vote to change time of council meeting to accommodate more parents, discuss change of teacher contract start time  (AM), 6^th grade parent survey approval.
