Special Events
-
Mileage Club - Students choose to participate by walking and
running all the way around the whole playground before school and after
eating lunch on club days.
-
International Walk to School Day – October 7, 2009. Join the
celebration and take a walk to school. We encourage walking & biking to
school when possible. Parents also lead “Walking School Buses” so friends
and families can walk to school safely and enjoy each other’s company!
-
Sports - The elementary sports activities are
organized by volunteers of teachers and parents in TUSD. Parents volunteer
to coach and transport students to games/meets for Cross Country,
Basketball, Track & Field and Softball.
-
Rodeo Dance – Tuesday, February 23, 2010. Teaming
with music we learn heritage dances and then have a fun night of dancing
with family friends and a live band!
-
Jump Rope for Heart & Hoops for Heart - Healthy
hearts are an important part of a lifetime of fitness and we’re on our way.
We jump rope and shoot hoops for a purpose this week - to learn about the
cardiovascular system and help our own hearts grow strong. Drachman
families also raise donations for the American Heart Association to help
others’ hearts.
Curriculum Focus
-
Critical Skills - These are catching, throwing, striking,
traveling movements , jumping variations kicking, and balance skills. These
skills are practiced and applied in various games to build a repertoire for
life. Game strategies and rules are learned and developed to help the
mental practice that is need in physical activities and life.
-
Health-related Fitness is 1) Cardiovascular Efficiency; 2)
Body Composition; 3) Flexibility; 4) Muscular Strength; 5) Muscular
Endurance. Develop fitness through exercise, play, assessment and goal
setting. We check our fitness levels by doing curl-ups, push-ups, the
shoulder stretch, trunk lift, and skin fold/BMI and run the PACER. We try
to do enough of each of these exercises to reach the Healthy Fitness Zone of
the Fitness Gram Assessment.
-
So what are you waiting for? Get moving! At
Drachman we’re going to be active and healthy every day. At home and in PE
a great habit for life can be strengthened.
