Message from the Principal
Dear
Hudlow Families,
August 2011
Welcome to the 2011-2012
school year! We are looking forward to an exciting year filled with
learning and partnering with you to provide a quality education for all of
our students! We encourage you to join us whenever you can – not only for
special events but as helpers in the classrooms and around the school.
A copy of the 2011-2012 Hudlow handbook will be
inside your child's Hudlow planner. There you will
find important information.
Please take the time to go through it with your child/ren.
It should come back and forth to school each day.
We value every instructional minute. We consider from
8:00 AM until dismissal a complete instructional day. Your child’s learning
begins with the second bell. Teachers greet each child, set the tone for
the day, and state objectives. Being present and on time to participate in
these events increase your child’s academic learning time, raises
achievement and promotes a sense of connectedness. Participating in the
full academic day eliminates the possibility of feeling embarrassed or
singled out. We are asking for your assistance. Your child’s attendance is dependent on your ability to make being in
school from the morning bell to the afternoon bell a family priority.
Our last bell rings at 2:14 PM.
If you arrive after 1:45 PM., you will be asked to wait for your child/ren until the dismissal bell rings. Students will
remain in their classrooms until that time in order to avoid disruption.
This time of the day is as important for learning as any other time. During
the last 30 minutes, teachers review the learning of the day, set goals for
the next day and give directions for homework. We respect the students’ and teachers’
time to begin and end the school day in a way that honors the learning and
work accomplished during the day. Therefore,
families who arrive 30 minutes prior to the final bell will be asked to
wait for their children until the final dismissal bell. Waiting areas are available at the front
office and on benches at the south entrance. If you have an emergency which
requires picking up your child/ren between 1:45-2;14 PM, you will need to speak directly to the
principal.
It’s a fact that children who attend school regularly learn
more and are more successful in school than children who do not. Families
who make regular school attendance a priority also are helping their
children learn to accept responsibility. That’s an important lesson for a
successful life.
Hudlow families find these strategies useful:
·
Put
completed homework in backpacks and set them by the door with shoes
·
Prepare,
discuss breakfast, snack, and lunch choices the night before
·
Have
a timed morning routine, eat, brush teeth, get dressed, leave house
·
Make
all arrangements for after school before drop off
·
Set
a consistent time for bed and time to rise
Thanks for your help,
Cheri LaRochelle
