Thank you. Restorative Discipline
is a philosophy that encourages empathy to foster compassion and motivate right
choices (Amstutz &
Mullet, 2005.)
Discipline means to teach or train. Socialization is a lifelong process
our children need help in learning to control their impulses and develop social
skills to become responsible.
Key goals of Restorative Discipline
• To unbderstand
the harm and develop empathy for both the harmed and the harmer.
• To listen and
respond to the needs of the person harmed and the person
who harmed.
• To encourage
acountability and personal responsibility through personal reflection with
a collaborative planning process.
• To reintegrate
the harmer into the community as a valuable & contributing member.
• To create caring
climates to support health communities.
• To change the
system when it contributes to the harm (ie. humiliation.)
• each os us wants
to be connected to others in a good way.
•each os us a a
valued member of the community andhas a right to his or her beliefs.
• we all share
some values that indicate what a good way means.
