Parental Involvement in Education Policy

School Visitations

Parents are welcome to visit Lynn/Urquides School at any time. Please make arrangements with your child’s teacher. All visitors to the building are required to "check-in" with the office before going to classrooms.

Parent involvement is fundamental and necessary. This involvement determines the influence towards the academic success of every student in the Tucson Unified School District. It is also a valuable component of the new law (No Child Left Behind).

Lynn/Urquides Principals, Teachers and Support Staff will:

• Lynn/Urquides will consult with and encourage parents to share in school planning and in the setting of objectives through school committees and school council.

•Lynn/Urquides will help parents understand the educational process and their role in supporting student achievement.

•Lynn/Urquides will establish a plan for parent participation in the schools, which is designed to improve parent and teacher cooperation in such areas as homework, attendance and discipline.

• Lynn/Urquides will provide an opportunity for parents to learn about the course of study for their children and review learning materials.

• Lynn/Urquides will provide a means for parents who object to any learning material or activity on the basis that it is harmful may withdraw their children from the activity or from the class or program in which the material is used.

• Lynn/Urquides will welcome families respectively and will provide a sincere and welcoming environment.

• Lynn/Urquides will provide communication between school and home that is regular, two-way and meaningful.

• Lynn/Urquides will inform parents about grade level expectations to include grade level Standards and Performance Objectives. This information should be shared with students.

• Lynn/Urquides will inform parents of policies regarding homework, discipline, attendance and other issues of importance to students, parents and the school.

• Lynn/Urquides will inform parents of school choices within the district, including but not limited to, information on open enrollment and choice programs.

• Lynn/Urquides will support all families when they need to express themselves in their native language, carrying out the translations in English, thus giving equal participation to all the parents in the different scenarios.

• Lynn/Urquides will provide opportunities for parents to be informed about their student's progress toward attaining proficiency on state and district academic standards. Information will explain how the student's progress will be measured and how parents will be informed of such progress.

• Lynn/Urquides will encourage formal organizations for parents.

• Lynn/Urquides in partnership with the parents,  will seek community resources to strengthen school programs.

• Lynn/Urquides will offer an initial interview opportunity to each of the families (Parent Teacher Conferences), to help develop each child’s academic success.

• Lynn/Urquides will provide a list of expectations to the families regarding parent involvement.

Responsibilities of Lynn/Urquides and families together:

• At the beginning of each school year, Lynn/Urquides and families should meet and share budget information of the present year. Taking the responsibility to give truthful information and answer questions to clarify doubts from any member. This information will be available for families that come into the school throughout the school year.

• At the beginning and throughout the school year Lynn/Urquides will provide parents opportunities to attend informational activities (i.e. open houses, interviews, and meetings) as well as compensatory activities (i.e. tutoring, study skills workshops, and special programs).

• During the school year, the faculty and parents should meet to express ideas, suggestions, and points of view. If questions arise, a response should be expected during the seven days following the meeting.
