To symbolize our values and build respect and compassion, my students and their families memorize a poem in English and Spanish that is based on the Mayan principle of "In Lak'ech." We recite it together before breakfast and lunch and at all significant events. -- Paula McPheeters

| Tú eres mi otro yo. Si te hago daño a ti, Me hago daño a mí mismo; Si te amo y respeto, Me amo y respeto yo. |
You are my other me. If I do harm to you, I do harm to myself; If I love and respect you, I love and respect myself. |
"The very least you can do in your life is to figure out what you hope for. The most you can do is live inside that hope, running down its hallways, touching the walls on both sides."
