Arts Integrated Curriculum

You may have open-enrolled to Robins because you heard about our Integrated Arts curriculum.
Or maybe you didn't even know we have an integrated arts curriculum.
We do!
We have a program called OMA "Opening Minds through the Arts"
as well as a fantastic Visual Arts program.
The OMA and Visual Arts teachers try to integrate core curriculum into everything they do,
and they work with our teachers who integrate art and music into the subject they're teaching.
This helps kids learn more effectively.

This short video is a great explanation of how this works: Click here to see some information and videos
showing why we think OMA is so great!

Check out our wonderful Visual Arts program and some example art lessons to get an idea of how Robins
integrates art into its curriculum.

This is the OMA program specifics for Robins
this 2011-2012 school year.
"Kinder and New Parent Coffee"

On the first day of school, right after you drop off your child(ren) in the courtyard with their teacher, (at about 8:20am) , please join us in the Library for "Kinder-Coffee". This informal social occasion is for parents of kindergartners and other students new to Robins. The PTO will be there to give out some information and to answer any questions or concerns you might have. Coffee and snacks are usually served. Please join us, we're looking forward to meeting you!

By the way... Did you know we are going K-8th grade???
We'll be a full K-8 school by the Fall of 2013!

We're also a Gate Cluster school. What's that?

The Fundraising BLUES: Why do we have to have these catalog/cookie dough fundraisers?

Kindergarten Parents and parents/caregivers new to our school:

Welcome! This page is for you. Many parents new to the public school system feel "one step behind everyone else" when it comes to "early release days" and "back to school nights", etc . We understand, and we'd like to help alleviate some of the confusion. We are still developing this page, and we'd love your input. What information/knowledge was difficult for you to find elsewhere that you wish you could have found here on this page? If you have ideas (or would even like to write some content), please contact Jenna Claver, Ms.Minno, or anyone else on the Contacts page. Thanks!
scroll on down and see if we've answered your questions... if not... let us know!

"Back to School Nights"

Every year, usually the second week of school Robins hosts "Back to School Nights" for each grade. Typically everyone meets in the MP room (Cafeteria) and Ms.Minno and some of the teachers give a short presentation. The parents are then "released" to their respective classrooms to meet and speak with their child's teacher. The teacher will give you an idea of their schedule and curriculum plans for the year, along with other information. These evenings are fun and informative and we encourage you to attend. Most parents leave their children at home with family or sitters for this event, but children are also welcome to join you if you need to bring them along. There is often an opportunity to sign up for scouts, escrip and boxtop programs, and the PTO usually sells t-shirts, entertainment books and other items. Often the Visual Arts and OMA teachers also have their classrooms open for people to visit.

Keep a look out for announcements about when your grade will have their back to school night. Check the Announcement page (which you should bookmark or save to "favorites") of this site. It will also be announced on bulletin boards around the school. If you are unable to attend, please see your teacher for information you need.

Back to school nights for 2011-2012:

Tuesday, August 23 K-1 6:30-8:00
Wednesday August 24 2-3 6:30-8:00
Thursday, August 25, 4-6 6:30-8:00

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher conferences are typically held twice during the school year. You will be notified when your scheduled conference is with your child's teacher via a note that will be sent home with your child. On conference days children are released early (at 11:40 am). This information is usually sent home in the school newsletter the week prior to the conferences and will also be announced on the Announcements page (which you should bookmark or save to "favorites") of this web site.

The first Parent Teacher Conference dates for the 2011-2012 school year are: see calendar

(2nd semester conferences are generally only required if your teacher sends home a note requesting one.
if you don't get a note home but would LIKE a conference, please contact your teacher in late January).

Getting involved

There are lots of ways to get involved and help your child's school give him or her a great education. We'd love your input at the PTO meetings and our Volunteer Coordinator is always looking for people to help with all sorts of projects around the school. Helping around your child's school is fun and a great way to meet new friends. Children who see their parents volunteering tend to be more enthusiastic about school as well.

And what's this "Fundraising" everyone keeps talking about? Let us explain...

Also check out the FUNDRAISING page for more details on how we earn money for the school!
