Sabino Students and
Teachers
Participate in
BioBlitz 2013
Maryann Carpenter and Melissa Kinsey,
teachers from Sabino High School, are taking eight of their students
to their third National Geographic BioBlitz, which will be held at
the Jean Lafitte National Park located in New Orleans, Louisiana on
May 16 - 19th. The
first BioBlitz they attended was held in 2011 at Saguaro National
Park and the second BioBlitz they attended was held in 2012 at Rocky
Mountain National Park in Colorado.
The students and teachers will spend the
first night participating in a crayfish boil with National
Geographic and participating scientists. Then on Friday and
Saturday, the group will be assisting scientists gather data and
collect various species in the park. They will participate with EO
Wilson storytelling by wearing Go Pro cameras. The group will meet
with various scientists in a special session they call," Passing the
Torch", where they share what they are doing in their field and the
students can ask questions. We wish them a safe and educational
experience!
