LADY HUSKIES WIN DIVISION, FINISH IN THE FINAL FOUR The Safford Lady Husky basketball team finished the regular season with a 6-1 record good enough for first place in the division. The only defeat came against non-conference foe Gridley Middle School. With 7 of 14 players in the 6th graders, Coach Rashad didn’t know what to expect going into the playoffs. In the first playoff game, Safford faced an eager Carson Middle School squad. This victory proved to give the girls much needed energy that they had been lacking during the regular season. In the second game, they faced a very determined Mansfeld team that had experience on their side. The Lady Huskies put up a strong defensive presence on their way to a 39-27 victory. This victory led to an appearance in the Final Four where they met a much more experienced and taller team from Roskruge Middle School. “We played well with them for one half, but they were just too tall for us to contain,” stated Coach Rashad. We know that the Lady Huskies will be force to watch in the future. It is with a heavy heart that we say so long to our 4 8th graders: Immaculee, Izaria, Sara, and Shaakira. They will be missed and never forgotten. GO LADY HUSKIES!!!! WE ARE SAFFORD!!!!
