Standardized Testing

PSAT

Why should a junior take the PSAT?

·        To be considered for the National Merit Scholarship Program

·        To receive information about colleges

All students taking the PSAT will enable students to:

·        Personalized feedback about critical academic skills with Q & A explanations.

·        Practice for the SAT Reasoning Test.

·        Seek information from colleges.

·        Enter scholarship competitions (juniors) for 2008.

·        Initiate the college-planning process (MyRoad).

If you are interested in applying and attending a 4 year college or university, it is required that you take one (dependent on the college, most accept either exam) for admissions criteria. Sahuaro’s HS code is: 030504

Handbooks and practice tests are available in the Guidance Center.

College Assessments

After completing high school and preparing to move on to either community college or university, you will find that you are required to take college assessment tests (in reading, writing, math) that will place you in the appropriate courses at your level. Notice to Parents, destributed to students who are interested in taking the AP, PSAT/NMSQT Tests :

Parent Notification of Advanced Placement (AP) Tests and Preliminary

Scholastic Test (PSAT)/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT)

We are pleased that your son/daughter has expressed interest in taking one or more AP tests and/or the PSAT/NMSQT.

Advanced Placement Tests (AP) are offered during the first two weeks of May for students in Advanced Placement classes. We have strongly encouraged students to take the AP tests to improve their college/university opportunities for admissions and scholarships, even if they haven’t made a decision yet about going to college. Financial aid is available for students who are eligible.

The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is offered in October of each year for sophomores and juniors. This test provides students with the opportunity to prepare and practice for college/university entrance tests, as well as qualifying for the National Merit cholarships.

Students should check with their high school counseling office for the dates and pplication forms to take the tests. This information is also published at every TUSD high school.

Please contact your high school counseling office for further information.
