Az ALLECA- Law Enforcement Career Academy

The ALLECA program in Arizona has been in existence since 1981 (29-years) and is one of only ten (10) such programs in the United States that are geared toward those individual teenagers who have shown an interest in some phase of law enforcement. This is one of the many "Children and Youth" programs that are sponsored by the American Legion. The program consists of a six-day encampment and will be held at Emmanuel Pines, which is about 6 miles Northwest of Prescott. To view the facilities available you can visit www.emmanuelpines.com. The program is offered to youths between the ages of 12 and 18. The cadets are fed three meals a day and are provided quarters and uniforms. This camp is not meant to correct disciplinary problems, but is one developed for kids interested in law enforcement or the military. Physical training is rigorious, so cadets attending the academy must be in good shape and able to run 1.5 miles in 15 minutes, and complete 35 push-ups and sit-ups upon entering the program. The encampment is under the direct leadership of the Arizona Department of Public Safety with most of the instruction being provided by certified Arizona or Federal law enforcement officers.

The 2009 ALLECA class took place from June 20th to June 26th, forty-seven (47) cadets graduated this year. The 2009 cadets completed a 6.0 mile run on the first day and a 8.5 mile graduation run, so this program is not one geared towards couch potatoes. The staff's goal is to have sixty (60) cadets attend during the 2010 year. For additional information, you can email Sgt. Dan Palmer AZ DPS at dpalmer@azdps.gov.

The dates for ALLECA 2010 are June 26th to July 2nd and show time for the academy will begin at 9:00 A.M. and close at 12:30 P.M. Cadets will need to arrive at the academy wearing a plain white t-shirt, running shorts, and running shoes. All valuable items, including medications need to already be stored/secured inside the suitcase prior to arrival. Only one suitcase per cadet will be allowed this year, due to storage restrictions. Additional information will be provided in the "Call to Report" that each cadet will receive in the mail. Graduation will commence at 12:00 P.M. on July 2nd, so it is suggested that family and friends arrive at the academy no later than 11:30 A.M.

If you would like an application for the 2010 year sent to you via email, you can contact Sgt. Dan Palmer, AZ DPS at dpalmer@azdps.gov.

My name is Sean Bierle and I am the Head Teacher for the Alzar School, a non-profit organization based in Idaho (www.AlzarSchool.com).  I am writing to share information about the leadership development course, F.L.O.W. 2010, we are offering for high school students this summer.  On this course, students will learn valuable, tangible leadership skills, complete a service project with the US Forest Service, and make friends from around the United States. Students will also have the chance to earn academic credit and valuable outdoor certifications.

We are contacting officials at schools in hopes that they will encourage potential leaders to apply for one of the limited spots on the course.  Our school is set up to challenge high school students that have demonstrated leadership potential. So, we are looking for students who have proven themselves through excellence in academics, clubs and organizations, sports, etc. Because we are offering college credit, it is necessary that students are capable of university-level curriculum... most likely they are currently enrolled in Honors, Advanced Placement, or IB classes this year. Students should be between the ages of 14 and 18 (incoming freshmen and outgoing seniors are accepted).  No previous outdoor experience is necessary.

The course, Future Leaders on Whitewater 2010, will use whitewater rafting and kayaking to provide students with chances to practice the leadership skills they learn.  We will be living and travelling around the Western United States, exploring beautiful rivers.  The course begins on June 19th, 2009 and finishes on July 8th.  Tuition for the course is $2,100, and includes all food, transportation, lodging, group and whitewater equipment.  Students must get themselves to our meeting point in Boise and will be responsible for some individual equipment.

If you are an interested student, please go to our website.  You can apply online for a space on the course today at: http://216.130.241.134/mktUT.jsp?ui=5852&uk=xA8U  there are only a few spots left, so please do so soon.  Also, if this summer doesn't work out, we have international courses other times during the year.

If you have any questions, please contact me at info@AlzarSchool.com.
