The Alice Vail drama program consists of a quarterly rotation for sixth graders and yearlong classes for seventh & eighth. In all three classes, students build skills that enable them not only to perform on stage, but to develop confidence in their abilities.
Sixth-grade students are introduced to creative dramatics. They work on exercises in stage movement, pantomime, improvisation, and characterization. Each class performs a final presentation in front of their family and schoolmates to showcase their skills.
The seventh-grade intermediate course allows the students to build on the skills they learned in sixth grade in a yearlong class. Inclusion in this class is based upon invitation or audition. The focus turns to creating characters for the stage. There are three evening performances during the year to showcase these skills.
The advanced drama course is available to both seventh and eighth grade students, and encompasses the entire school year. Inclusion in this class is based upon invitation or audition. The students give three evening performances per year for family and friends. They may also be invited to join the honorary Junior Thespian Troupe. |
