Music Program

Every Drachman student in graded K - 3 learns to play the violin.  Instruction begins in Kindergarten when students learn to hold a cardboard violin.  By December, the Kindergarteners participate in a "graduation" concert and are presented with a real violin that they play for the rest of the year.

Violin instruction is conducted weekly for all students throughout their stay at Drachman.  The program of instruction is modeled on the Suzuki method, created specifically to teach children the art of playing the violin.  The violin program at Drachman supports the school's basic philosophy that all children have talent and can learn.  The program supports classroom instruction by building listening skills, self confidence, primary motor skills, language development and memory.

Third through Sixth graders have an option to be in orchestra as well.

Second through Sixth graders at Drachman will have the opportunity to participate in Drachman's Fiddle Club during the Extended Day program.  Here students study "Old Time Fiddling" which strengthens their violin skills by playing traditional American fiddle tunes.  The Fiddle Club performs for the school, as well as at community events.

For further information about the Drachman Violin Program please contact our violin specialist, Laura Barry, at (520) 225- 1554 or laura.barry@tusd.k12.az.us
