Why Shared Decision-Making? The purpose of shared decision-making is to enhance student achievement through both the improvement of the instructional program and delivery of support services. Students, parents, educators and community members become more committed to improving and supporting their school when they have an opportunity to serve or be represented on a council with a role in shaping the direction their school might take. Shared decision-making does not mean running the day to day operations of the school, however, it does imply, that school staff and members of the school community are involved in making decisions designed to improve the school's performance. Shared decision-making is based on the premise that better decisions are made by those who are most affected by those decisions.
