Spanish
Fruchthendler Elementary provides a 25-minute Spanish lesson once a week that rotates between K-5 classes on Tuesdays or Thursdays. The emphasis is on having fun while learning, infusing in the students a desire to persist in learning a new language. Songs, chants, puppets, games and other lively activities are used to achieve this goal followed by discussion and/or reinforcement of skills.
- Kindergarten and first graders are taught simple vocabulary including greetings, colors and numbers.
- Second and third graders expand on the K-1 curriculum and learn additional vocabulary in a variety of units.
- Fourth and fifth grade classes, in addition to learning expanded vocabulary, begin learning basic grammatical structures and conversational Spanish.
The curriculum is aimed towards achieving aural and visual comprehension and good pronunciation.
