Hi! Welcome to TUSD's premier self-contained program for gifted education. I am looking forward to working with the students I already know and to meeting those who are new to the Alice Vail GATE program. I believe in education for the gifted. It is as necessary to the academic, social, and emotional growth of bright children as eating is to their physical growth. Gifted students have special needs and can't easily maximize their potential in a regular education setting. We are so very lucky that TUSD offers our best and brightest a self-contained gifted education program at the middle school level. Gifted education, and for that matter 21st-century education, must go beyond the acceleration offered by some of the very fine charter and private schools we have in Tucson. GATE philosophy recognizes that our kids need a compelling and authentic curriculum that contains big ideas and real world connections, comprised of activities and simulations that are open-ended and relevant. Student performance is still measured according to district and state standards, but opportunities abound for personalized and creative responses. Expectations are high and the program is rigorous. My goal is to prepare you to be an informed, excellent communicator, and a creative, original leader and innovator. My job is to support your success and nurture your academic and social growth in every way I can.
