What is SRI and How is it Used?

Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) is a reading comprehension test for grades 1-12 that assesses students' reading levels and helps teachers adjust instruction according to students' needs, track students' reading growth over time, and match readers to text. The software is designed to be administered in classrooms or in computer labs in one class period.

Once students have been assessed by SRI and their reading level has been expressed in Lexiles, teachers can use the data as:

  • A powerful tool to plan for whole group, flexible group, and/or individualized instruction.
  • A means to provide high-interest reading lists that match their students' instructional needs and reading level.
  • An opportunity to guide students in their selection of books to read independently.
  • An opportunity for teachers, children, and parents to see a child's reading progress from year to year and set goals along the way.

Students can enter their lexile and get an expanded list of books at their level at this site
