PRINCIPAL'S CORNER

Welcome to Dietz Elementary School.  We have many exciting things that  are happening in our school!

»The Opening Minds Through the Arts  Program (OMA GOLD) is fully implemented in our school.  We have instrumental artists in kindergarten, opera artists in first grade, and dance artists in second grade.  The recorder instrument is taught to third graders, violin to fourth graders and fifth graders have the choice of joining band or orchestra.  We continue to have an OMA Arts Integration Specialist that works with all classrooms.

»We are a Title I school which provides us with extra financial resources for an Academic Specialist, and classroom teachers. It also provides money for our OMA Gold Program.

»Parenting Courses are taught by Sandy Garcia, Dietz Academic Specialist, and Joyce Anderson, Dietz Counselor.

»Students may join Math Club, Gardening Club and/or Chorus.

CHALLENGES FOR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES

Challenge One:              Patterns

Look at these two number patterns.  Describe how they are different and how they are alike.     4, 8, 12, 16, 20

              27, 25, 23, 21, 19

Challenge Two:              Late for School
You have trouble waking up each morning and are often late for school.  When you are late, you have to make up twice the amount of time during lunch time.  Write down what ways you might solve this problem.

Challenge Three:              Equations
How many equations can you write that describe the number 30?  You can use addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals or any combinations of these in your equations.  See how many equations you can make.

I am excited about getting your responses to these challenges. Please put  your name and teacher's name on your paper, and turn in your responses to the office. I will look at them and respond back to you.
