Have you ever wanted to invest in the stock market, but were afraid you would lose your money? I know you will enjoy this project because it has something for everyone. It has graphing data, finding the slope of a line, and trend analysis for those that love to interpret graphs. This project also uses Microsoft Excel to make three dimensional graphs that can be used to make predictions on future stock prices. For those of you that like to do hands on real world application problems, this is the one for you.

What would you think if someone gave you $100,000.00 dollars and asked you to invest it into the stock market and see how much money you could make? If you are like most people, you will enjoy making money. So in this project you will receive $100,000.00 virtual dollars to invest in either stocks and/or bonds in order to build your own portfolio.

There are four key elements required to complete this project.  First you must read the Stock Market Basics, to find out how to invest your virtual money wisely. Second you must do some hands on research by surfing the internet and finding historical data on the price of your favorite stock.  The third element requires you to graph the stock prices over time. Using Microsoft Excel graph and extend the graph to make a prediction on where the stock price is headed in the short term.  The fourth part of this project is to take the virtual money you received after registration and invest it in the stock market.  In this project you make money on your investment just like you would in the real world.

There are actually many places to go for ideas. One approach is to read some of the daily business news or general business news in our Reading Room. Perhaps you'll read a story about a growing industry or consumer trend and you then find companies that are poised to take advantage of the opportunities

Before you make any decisions, gather plenty of information about the companies you've targeted by using the resources in the next section:

Another approach is to browse through the recommendations of stock market analysts and writers.  Learn about individual companies, industries and trends/analysis of the stock market at Briefing.Com.

One final word on stock market analysts: At the end of their analysis of a company, they may issue a recommendation: "Strong Buy," "Buy," "Accumulate," "Hold," "Sell" etc. However, most analysts work for stock brokerage firms, which often make money financing the same businesses their analysts are evaluating. So, they may be reluctant to actually give advice to "sell" a company's stock, even though their analysis reveals significant problems with that company. Focus more on the body of their analysis, not their final recommendation.

Project Requirements:
