PURPOSE  This site was created in 2005 by Mr. Kevin Kehl as a reference to insects and native and non-native plants on and around our campus at Palo Verde High Magnet School in Tucson, Arizona.  It is designed to be a guide in the classroom as well as an identification tool for the public.

VIRTUAL COLLECTING vs. ACTUAL COLLECTING  This site has been created to be a worthy alternative to collecting insects and plants in the field.  Study of insect and plant specimens is crucial for identification and classification.  Yet conservation and environmental stewardship are also important lessons for students to learn.  Students can take photographs of live specimens and compare them with notes from the field in order to identify and classify them.  This will reduce the number of wasted specimens and possibly help preserve the habitat in which these organisms live.

USE  Use of this site is intended to be universal.  Students, faculty, parents, and the public are encouraged to use and enjoy the information and images presented here.  You are welcome to use, copy, print, present any of the text and graphics on this site.  However, please cite us as your source.  Use our References a guide on how to cite sources.  When using our images, please use the following citation:

FUNDING  This site is made possible in part by the Educational Enrichment Foundation.  The grant awarded by EEF was used to purchase four Nikon 2200 CoolPix Cameras, four 128M Secure Digital flash memory cards, four SD card readers, and Microsoft Frontpage web authoring software.

Palo Verde High Magnet School and Mr. Kehl are grateful to EEF for their continued support of Tucson's school and the advancement of public education.  Without their funding, innovative projects like these would not exist.
