I am so glad that you have chosen (or that it was chosen for you) to study French this year.  This class will provide you with the opportunity to learn more about our world and your place in it.  Learning a foreign language could change your life.  Job opportunities in tourism, banking, engineering, marine biology, medical research and more exist for Americans who can speak some French (even just a LITTLE French).  I expect you to give this class a chance and bring your best efforts to our work together.

I seek your cooperation in building a safe and positive learning environment for EVERYONE in the classroom. Our focus will be the development of reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in our target language.  We will use stories, songs, videos and the internet.  We will learn about “French” culture, French language influence throughout the world, French history and films, music and literature.

Rules

As a teacher, I take seriously my responsibility to prepare you for post-secondary learning:

  1. Students will be taught good note taking skills and will be prepared every day for class with a three ring binder (for printouts and returned homework, reports or tests/quizzes), pens or pencils and an 8 ½ x 11 SPIRAL notebook (about 80 pages will do -- This notebook will be used daily in class for stories and grammar and will be turned in on a regular basis.  It should be stored in the binder and removed for grading).
  1. Most of our homework is done online.  If you do not have internet access at home, please make arrangements to download and upload assignments at Sabino’s library, or Pima’s library.
  1. Students can only learn if they’re trying, and you are expected to participate in this class.  During teacher-led story telling, students are expected to CLEAR their DESK, keep their hands on top of the desk and participate with total attention to the lesson. Lesson plans are available online at the teacher website:   http://edweb.tusd.k12.az.us/roliver/ (also accessible through Sabino home page).
  1. Student grades will be determined from the points received in three weighted categories:    50% Tests and quizzes, 25% Class participations (see above) and 25% Power writing and Homework.
