Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born in Hyde Park, New York on January 30,1882. He was the son of James Roosevelt and Sara Delano Roosevelt. Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the 32nd president of the United States of America. Franklin D. Roosevelt served longer than any other president of the United States {1932-1945}. He led the United States through its worst depression and through its worst war.

Franklin Roosevelt was born on a comfortable estate, he had a pleasant shattered childhood. Franklin was taught by a governess and was taken on frequent trips to Europe. One day his father took him to the White House to see president Grover Cleveland. Cleveland said, he hoped that young Franklin would never have a misfortune of becoming president.

At the age of 14, Franklin entered Groton school, a preparatory school in Groton , Mass. He had learned to speak and write both German and French. He made good grades, but was shy and had few close friends. He graduated from Groton school in 1900. Roosevelt enrolled that same year at Harvard University. He majored in History, joined intramural rowing and football teams. He also was elected secretary of the freshman Glee Club. His college activities helped him make friends easily. He graduated from Harvard University in the year of 1903. He then continued his studies in 1904 at Columbia University Law School.

Back in 1903 while studying at Harvard he had met Eleanor Roosevelt. Then they got engaged and Franklin told his mom that he was planning to marry Eleanor. His mother didn’t like his plan, so she decided to send Franklin on a cruise to forget Eleanor. But Eleanor and Franklin soon got married on March 17, 1910.

One day in 1910, Franklin accepted an invitation from the State Democratic Leaders to run for the New York Senate. At the age of 29, Franklin was chosen by the State Legislature to be the State Senator. In the year of 1913 Wilson became president and appointed Franklin as assistant Secretary of the Navy. After the U.S. entered World War 1 in April,1917, Franklin wanted to enter the military service. But Daniel’s persuaded him to stay at his desk.

In 1930, Roosevelt won reelection by about 725,000 votes, a record for the state at that time. The victory proved that he was popular with voters. On March 4,1933 Franklin Delano Roosevelt became president, at the age of 51. Franklin D. Roosevelt had two major accomplishments, The Great Depression in the 1930’s and World War 2. He was elected president four times. In 1933,1936, 1940, and 1944.

In 1944 , Roosevelt was nominated for a fourth-term, running against Thomas E. Dewey. He appeared worn and tired. His health had been declining and did not improve. After the Yalta conference, less than a month before the war in Europe ended, he was sitting at his deskand suddenly fell over in his chair. Than he whispered ,"I have a terrific headache." Those were his last words. He died a few hours later of a Cerebral Hemorrhage. Roosevelt was buried at Hyde park.
