Lyndon B. Johnson was the thirty-sixth President of the United States. He was President from the year nineteen-sixty-three to nineteen-sixty-nine after President Kennedys assassination. He was born near Stonewall, Texas in Gillipse County in the year nineteen-o-eight. He came from a family of governmental people. His father was Samuel Ealy Johnson, Jr who served five terms in the Texas Legislature. In nineteen-thirteen they moved to Johnson City where Lyndon attended local schools and graduated one of six graduates from Johnson City High School. In nineteen-twenty-seven he decided to take his mothers advice of going to college. He enrolled in Southwest Texas State Teachers College where lots of his friends were already there. In nineteen-twenty-eight he quit college and became a principal of a school for Mexican children. He had a very hard job but was successful. the following year he returned to college to finish his work and graduated in nineteen-thirty as a public speaking teacher at Sam Houston High School where his uncle was chairman of the history department. Berry beginning his second year as a teacher he accepted a political appointment. His first position was a private secretary of congressman Richard M. Kelberg. Even though he wasnt part of his campaign he got recommended by Hill Country Family in 1937 he decided to run as for congressman, he put out a very strong campaign so strong he 3000 votes more than the next highest candidate of nine. He got taken for a ride on the presidential train. After being sworn in he learned he was appointed to the Naval Affairs Committee a very important position thanks to the president and his fathers old friend Sam Rayburn. As his first years in office he made lots of accomplishments and became known as "The man who gets things done." When World war II broke out he combined his defense policy with getting things done, he set up Naval training stations and shipbuilding yards. Second he tried for senator but lost by 1311. He also helped in the war by being one of the first congressman to put on a uniform and go on duty as a lieutenant commander surviving two nearly fatal airplane crashes and receiving a silver star for General Douglas MacArthur. Back in Washington he helped modernize the Navys procedures. In 1945 he lost his dear friend Franklin D. Roosevelt. Three years later he ran for senate again. The other person running almost beat him, but Lyndon won by 87 votes and got the nickname "Landslide Lyndon." He was also a minority leader. In 1950 Everett Dirksen Scott Lucas a majority leader. Ernest McFarland replaced Lucas an Lyndon became democratic whip. In 1952 McFarland lost his senatorial seat and Johnson was chosen by his fellow democrats to replace McFarland. In 1953 he changed a tradition, he made sure all junior democratic senators received at lest one desirable committee assignment. To do so he had to persuade a number of senior senators to give up choice committee positions. He became a majority leader by being reelected senate in 1954. In 1955 he had a heart attack and lasted six weeks resting a rapid recovery with normal blood pressure and an undamaged heart. In 1960 Kennedy offered him a vice-presidential nomination. Johnson caused surprise by accepting it. Kennedy used Johnson and another man dew to their knowledge of this field. He relied on Johnson on different matter, but took good care of him informing him of major actions well in advance. On November 21, 1963 Kennedy was assassinated and Lyndon Johnson became president. In a speech he proved to be his own president, he had impressive results in his early months as president. In 1964 he was officially nominated president, later that year he didnt appoint a vice-president, but yet he mentioned who would. So while running for president in 1964 to be officially nominated president he became "The president of the people." Almost every newspaper was on his side giving good quotes about him. The result was an enormous landslide. He had the largest popular-vote margin in U.S. 61 percent went to Johnson. The democrats increased their membership in the senate from 66 to 68 and in the house from 259 to 295. In his European Policy he wanted to warm his friendship with the Europeans. He did a lot in some of these wars in Vietnam he wouldnt let the south fall to the communist, but he also tried for peace or to end the in two occasions, but failed each time. After that he decided to retire. He went back to Texas to write his presidential memories. He also had Texas University dedicated to him in may 1957. Johnson died in 1973 and was buried at the LBJ Ranch in Johnson City, Texas I think he did more than he had to for his country like being in some of the wars helping or serving his nation helping him get more publicity. He also showed all his knowledge by being one of his advisers helping Kennedy making big diocesans. Also during his presidency. He was a man with very many good excellent qualities.
