Many of you out there will think of Franklin Pierce as only the 14th president of the United States. But he was Much More than that, in these two pages you will find some pretty interesting things about this man as you read more.

Pierce was born in 1804 of pioneer stock. Pierce attended the local Hillsborough school. He graduated from Bowdoin College in 1824. He was the son of a great Revolution general. He married a woman by the name of Jane Means Appleton.

Pierce was a general in the Mexican War under Winfield Scott, he became a democratic Candidate for president in 1852. He was nominated on the 49th ballot after a deadlock between his other competitors. He over whelmingly beat General Scott, and became the 14th president.

Before Pierces inauguration he lost his son do to a railroad accident. Pierce wasn’t very popular but when he lost his boy the whole nation cried out. Some people wondered though would this affect his presidency?

After obviously failing to obtain renomination, Pierce quit politics. During the American Civil War he took back what he said about Lincoln’s administration. He died later at concord on 10/08/1869.

-Conclusion-

I hope you got a little or learned something on this great president.
