Getting to Know Coach George

By: Leslie Kenney

Do you know Coach George Rodriguez?

Coach George Rodriguez is a well known coach at Townsend. Before his coaching career started he had always wanted to coach here. Coach George’s inspiration in coaching came from his high school track & field coach. He got the opportunity of coaching here at Townsend when his daughter was in the 7th grade when the girls track coach had resigned due to an injury. He has been coaching at Townsend ever since, and it’s been 12 years! His favorite sport to coach is track & field. He enjoys track and field because even though you can win as a team  students can also win as an individual. Coach George likes coaching girls more than the boys because he believes they work 100% harder! He coaches boys’ volleyball and girls’ track & field. Coach George’s  most memorable event in his coaching career came when the boys volleyball team went to the championship and the girls track & field team got first place in divisionals.

Coach George Rodriguez was born in Tucson, AZ on December 31st, 1962 at 9:59 p.m. He shares his birthday with a younger twin sister. He is the oldest of 6 siblings. His favorite sports to watch on TV is football, because it’s a team sport, and track& field, because it’s an individual effort. His favorite color is maroon (it is a Salpoint color). He likes to listen to “old school music” as we call it.  His favorite TV show is “That 70’s Show”. His most memorable moment from school is when he won his first 800 meter dash in the 8th grade. Coach George has 5 family members in his home, 3 children, 2 boys and 1 girl. His kids attended Ft. Lowell, Townsend and Salpoint.

Coach George is self employed. He owns his own print shop, and he runs the whole thing.

So now you know Coach George Rodriguez.
