TAH Grant Information |
|
GOALS
The program is designed to assist teachers to improve their content
knowledge of American History and pedagogical skills. Teachers
will collaborate with University of Arizona History graduate
students as well as attend workshops and institutes to implement the
new Social Studies standard. Teachers who work with 7th or
8th-grade Social Studies classrooms may apply online to participate
in the grant.

Improve teachers’ content knowledge of American
History for grades 5, 7 and 8 over three years.

Improve teachers’ pedagogical skills in teaching
American History which targets research-based strategies and
methods over three years.

Integrate the use of technology into teaching
American History by using tools that provide access to primary
historical documents and to effectively utilize digital images
to create presentations of historical content.

Improve students’ knowledge and understanding of
American History as evidenced by performance on outcomes
measures.
EXPECTATIONS
Participants must...
-
Teach 7th or 8th grade Social Studies at a TUSD
middle school
-
Commit to 3 years
-
Develop lesson plans quarterly which are
standards based, use the Sheltered Instruction Observation
Protocol (SIOP) model, and will be part of an online database
-
Participate in classroom observations by
University of Arizona History graduate students and grant staff

Administer student assessments (both formal and
informal)
-
Attend Summer Institute (8-3 one week in June
with an optional second week)
-
Collaborate weekly with University of Arizona
History graduate students
