Van Buskirk Optimist Club
The Van Buskirk Elementary School Optimist Club is an organization made up of Van Buskirk faculty and staff, their
family members, parents, and members of the community.
We have been an established club since May 2008, and are generously supported by the Pueblo Optimists.
Being a part of the Optimist Club is a wonderful way to volunteer your time to make a difference in the lives of our students and improve the atmosphere/environment of our school as a whole. The more hands, heads, and hearts we have as a part of our organization, the more successful we will be as supporters of our school.
Funds raised by the Optimists go directly back to our school or support our charitable donations to assist others in need. In 2010, we donated over $800 to the American Red Cross to help with the relief efforts in Haiti following the earthquake disaster. We also raised over $2,000 to build a beautiful shade for our kindergarten playground.
Some of our past and current fundraising projects include: popsicle sales, popcorn sales, benefit dinners, a rodeo cookout, penny drives, a photo booth, gift-wrapping, and volunteering at Oktoberfest. These efforts have allowed us to sponsor many wonderful, worthwhile events at our school, like the May 2010 Family Reading Night and a Native American educational performance. We have also been able to secure school supplies for our teachers and students, give clothing to children in need, and provide food to needy families during the holidays.
Becoming a member of the Van Buskirk Optimist Club is a way to volunteer your time and efforts to benefit our students. It is a way to be a part of a special group of people whose main objectives are to meet the needs of the community and work toward bringing out the best in kids. Would you like to be a decision-maker, a person who has a “say” in the future of Van Buskirk? If so, perhaps you would like to become a Van Buskirk Optimist Club member, a friend of our Optimist Club, or a corporate sponsor.
